“You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all; being manifested that you are a letter of Christ …” (2 Cor. 3:2-3)
Why are we called upon to be ‘a letter of Christ’? The Scriptures give us ample reasons for modeling and imitating Christ.
We need to imitate Him to be spiritually healthy and to escape the sickness of sin. Wearing the image of Jesus in our hearts is inevitable to rule all our emotions in a godly way and to enable us to walk in His footsteps. For such will be the people who are the most happy and the most useful for His Kingdom. Following Jesus like Peter at a distance will be both unsafe and counterproductive.
We who profess to be His disciples and yet disguise ourselves by the facade of hypocrisy, trying to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing, do injure the cause of the gospel, much more than the critics or the atheists outside.
But, if we truly love your Savior, and would like to see His Kingdom advanced and souls saved, and for your own joy, there is no weapon more powerful than imitating Him.
So be ‘a letter of Christ; known and read by all”.
