David says, “Onething I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek” (Ps. 27:4).
David gives expression to his deep longing through these verses that what he sought after, was not simply the deliverance or provisions from the Lord, but the Lord Himself. This longing he pursues with great focus and single minded devotion.
The people of the world seek satisfaction in great many other things, like comforts, enjoyments and riches. But a person quickened by the Holy Spirit would lay aside every encumbrance of treasures, fortune, fame or riches and say, ‘it is Him that I want and it’s His beauty I want to behold’.
How blessed it’s when a man has has brought his desires in to focus, so that they will center on one person/object. Happy is the person who has but one desire that is set on Christ. Such a person cannot be content with the rituals, ordinances or externals that the world offers.
Remember the song:
‘I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold
I’d rather be His than have riches untold
i’d rather have Jesus than houses or land
Yes, I’d rather be led by His nail pierced hands
Than to be the king of a best domain
And beheld in sins dread away’
Is it your condition as you read this?
Can you say, ‘all that I desire for, is centered in Christ?
